As an NGO Representative interning for the International Association of Schools of Social Work, I have had the opportunity of being involved in various NGO committees. This past semester has been the most challenging of all of my academic experiences. While interning at the United Nations, I have grown exponentially in my knowledge of the UN system, as well as various social, economic, and political issues in the world through the lens of an NGO Representative. The following is a description of how one becomes involved in the NGO process as well as the opportunities that I have experienced while being part of various NGO committees. The United Nations is a massive international organization comprised of six main organs: the Secretariat, the Security Council, the General Assembly, the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), the International Court of Justice, and the Trusteeship Council. These organs are comprised of various commissions, specialized agencies, and departments.
