EDUCATION A cornerstone of the Omnibus AIDS Act is HIV/AIDS education for a wide variety of individuals. It was the belief of the Legislature that the transmission of HIV/AIDS can best be prevented through education. Most licensed healthcare workers must take a course on HIV/AIDS tailored to his or her profession as a condition of licensure and relicensure. Courses for healthcare workers include information on modes of transmission, infection control procedures, clinical management and prevention of HIV/AIDS. Courses also include information on current Florida laws on HIV/AIDS and their impact on testing, confidentiality of test results, and treatment of patients. In addition, licensed healthcare facilities must educate their entire workforce about HIV/AIDS. The Act also addresses education for a number of other individuals including barbers, cosmetologists, university and community college students, various institutionalized individuals, correctional officers, and inmates.
