Diet Download is a PDA application that enables users to keep track of their diet. The Diet Download program tracks all intake of food and alerts a user if they are not in compliance with their diet plan. To make it portable and easy to use, Diet Download incorporates an integral barcode scanner and databases to help track food products and their consumption. There are five main functions of the program: a diet plan, a grocery list, a pantry inventory, a meal system, and a user statistics system. Diet Download not only makes it easy for a user to keep track of dietary information, but it also allows the user to keep track of all food in their possession as well as food that needs to be purchased. Diet Download was implemented using the Model-View-Control design pattern. The code is written in a modular fashion using Visual Basic. Modularity is important because it allows the functionality of Diet Download to evolve with a minimal amount of code revision. The program was written with the intent of allowing different diet modules to be inserted, which would change the functionality of the program. The Diet Download system uses the Palm Database format to provide data persistence.
