Using Light as a Research Tool The Synchrotron Radiation Center At the Synchrotron Radiation Center (SRC) researchers use light as a research tool. The SRC produces light by hurtling electrons around a track called Aladdin that is about the size of a baseball diamond and is mostly square with rounded corners. The result is light that ranges from the infrared to x-ray, which is captured and used for a diverse array of research applications. Funded by the National Science Foundation, the national laboratory south of Madison attracts scientists from around the world who tackle fundamental and applied scientific problems.
