In 1995, nearly one-fourth of childhood cancer deaths were due to invasive malig- nancies of the central nervous system, primarily the brain. Mortality from brain and other CNS cancer declined an average of 1.1 percent per year. This was an overall decline of 23 percent between 1975 and 1995 (Figure XIV.4).
