Content Summary : Abstract Sexuality and aging is fast becoming a topic of conversation in therapeutic circles of care due to the increasing numbers of individuals in the aging pipeline, the continued expansion of medical advances and the fact that intimacy remains central throughout the life span. To this end, this research will look at the relationship of Alzheimer’s Disease, dementia and frailness and the role each play in the sex lives of caregivers and their loved ones. A review of recent studies regarding the issues and concerns of sexuality as it relates to dementia, Alzheimer's Disease, and aging will be accomplished. In addition, an anonymous respondent survey patterned after the American Association of Retired Persons survey completed in 1999, was mailed to caregivers of clients assisted by the Brevard Alzheimer's Foundation, Inc. in Brevard County, Florida. Names were collected from various streams of service; in-facility day care, in-home respite care, support groups, education and training services. This research was limited to clients receiving dementia care and service from the Brevard Alzheimer’s Foundation, Inc., a non-profit corporation dedicated to the treatment and care of families living with one or more patients with dementia -- primarily those patients suffering from Alzheimer’s disease. The Foundation and the authors have worked with these families for over 12 years. The sexual component of each family is tied to the disease progress in each patient. The facts, figures, and conclusions are limited to the families that sought help from the Foundation, and those families that benefited from the outreach work of the authors and their staff members
