ADO .NET AND SQL SERVER , in previous incarnations, generally enjoyed separate design and development routes. But ADO.NET 2.0 and SQL Server 2005 (formerly code-named “Yukon”) share a great deal of functionality and complementary technologies. As these two separate products began to approach final release, it was necessary to merge their functionality and release schedules so that they can provide an integrated platform for the new technologies they both implement. Chapter 1 discussed the many areas where ADO.NET 2.0 and SQL Server have converged, and in this and subsequent chapters you’ll see these features described in more detail. The support for hosting ADO.NET code within SQL Server 2005 is covered in Chapter 6, and the new xml data type and the way it can be used as a type in a table column are covered in Chap- ter 7.
