The Camera The Digilux 1 is a fairly well-featured camera, and Leica has styled it to resemble their M-series cameras. Their advertising blurb refers to it as "the digital reportage camera", comparing it to the Leica 1 of 1925. Indeed I've had people mistake it for a 50s/60s- vintage camera at first glance, although people familar with the Leica M cameras tend to comment that it's "big and chunky". The Digilux was a joint development with Panasonic, and the Panasonic DMC-LC5 is basically the same camera - the only differences are the shape of the outer body and some tweaks to the firmware (things like white balance, apparently). In keeping with the styling, manual focus is controlled via a dial surrounding the lens, and a chunky mode dial is on top of the body. An LCD status display is also on top, along with the shutter button (surrounded by the zoom control) and buttons controlling the self-timer and flash.
