Holden has expanded its top-selling Astra range once again with the introduction of a three door hatch version. Though Astra sedans and five door hatches come in City and CD equipment levels, the three door hatch has been introduced in just the City version, presumably to keep the sticker price low. In manual form, the Astra three-door sells for $18,990, while the automatic version is $20,840. Air conditioning costs an additional $1,775. Metallic paint is another $120 and it features in four out of the five colours available. The Astra three-door is powered by the same 1.8 litre DOHC engine that is in other Astra models and it is linked to either a five-speed manual or a four-speed electronic control automatic transmission. As it is being sold in the City equipment level, the Astra three-door hatch misses out on a few of the bells and whistles of the CD versions, however most of the ‘essentials’ are there. Standard items include dual front airbags, four- wheel disc brakes, tilt and telescopic steering wheel, power steering, height adjustable driver’s seat, a six speaker sound system, remote central locking, engine immobiliser and a multi-function display with time, date and outside temperature readings.
